Direct Deposit is a free service that automatically deposits recurring income into any Wells Fargo checking, savings, or prepaid card account you choose. Income you receive from your employer, Social Security, pension and retirement plans, the Armed Forces, VA Benefits, and annuity or dividend payments may all qualify for Direct Deposit. Survey research by the Federal Reserve published in 2002, for example, indicates that the use of debit and credit cards and automatic deposit and withdrawal (via the automated clearinghouse) grew fivefold from 1979 to 2000 and that the use of paper checks for payments probably peaked in the mid-1990s.
